Since the decision handed down by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals (Price v. Garland), people who record video, be it with a GoPro, a Smartphone, a DSLR, Mirrorless Camera or whatever on "any" federal lands, i.e., national parks, monuments, wilderness areas, national forests, etc. must have a permit. Even though many would be exporting to their own private account without any personal monetization, the fact that the publisher makes money off of any and all videos posted means that the creator's work is "commercial" in nature. Rather than "export" an edited video to a "publisher", I would like to be able to save my completed video on my laptop, external hard drive, flash drive or whatever. Since I am going to make an attempt at learning this process, I am hoping there are thorough tutorials / instructions about how to "save" a video to a PC, Laptop, external hard drive or whatever rather than, say, "You Tube". I would appreciate some feedback on this matter. Thank you for considering this matter.

Just an observation - HEVC footage from iOS and Android devices can be edited in Lightroom / Photoshop, etc., but not GoPro. I find this mystifying if not perplexing - a double standard perhaps?

On the feature request the response was to the effect that Lightroom, Photoshop, etc. is intended for images, not videos. I guess I wonder why they would offer support for iOs and Android devices and not GoPro. They said to use Premier Rush.

It would be sincerely appreciated if Adobe would include H.265 (HEVC) video editing capabilities for GoPro Cameras. I have a GoPro Hero 10 Black and it would be wonderful if that video could be edited in Lightroom / Bridge / Photoshop. Thank you for considering this idea.

As of January, 2022, HEVC was not among the formats listed as accepted for video editing in Lightroom Classic. As of April 27, 2022, Adobe says: "Lightroom and Lightroom Classic 9.3 and later support HEVC video files on Windows." I would like the ability to import HEVC video from my GoPro Hero 10 to edit in Lightroom / Camera Raw / Photoshop. It would be sincerely appreciated if someone could please enlighten me on this issue. I have a laptop running Windows 10 and I have installed an HEVC player to play back the videos without importing them into Adobe's editing software programs. I know that HEVC editing is not available on mobile devices as the moment. Nevertheless, it would be very nice to be able to edit the videos on my laptop in the future. Thank you for hopefully being able to clarify this matter.

I just gave up hope for purchasing a BenQ SW240 monitor because my Dell Laptop, which has only an HDMI port and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M graphics card are incompatible because the graphics card will not handle 10-bit color. My graphics card runs Photoshop on my laptop perfectly - no problems. I have a 1T SSD card and 16GB of RAM. Intel Core 7 processor. 1920 x 1080 laptop screen (non-touch). I really wanted to get the BenQ SW240, but everything I have found tells me it is not going to work. Some people have said it will be fine - it just won't display the color in 10-bit. Well, what about how it affects the overall performance of Photoshop itself? I need some clarity - not just about the screen resolution incompatibility, but how a 10-bit monitor attached to an HDMI port on a laptop with a GTX 960M graphics card is going to impact the operation of Photoshop itself. My guess is that it is a "no go." Your comments, please.

Thank you again. Since your Reply, I have done some more research on this matter. You are correct about the GPU discrepancies. And, the direct connection of the monitor to the laptop is the correct solution to that situation. I have since learned that "I think" I can connect a couple of the other peripherals directly to the monitor, but only after connecting the monitor's "Upstream USB Type B Cable" to one of the laptop's USB ports. Once that connection is made, it is possible to connect things like a mechanical keyboard and Wacom Tablet directly to the monitor as the USB upstream connection transmits data between the USB devices and the laptop. Because I only have three USB 3.0 ports on my laptop, I would only have one free USB port after connecting the monitor (HDMI port), USB Type B Cable and a docking station which would hopefully handle all the low power USB devices, i.e., mouse, external hard drives, external speakers with USB connection, etc. So, hopefully this will resolve my situation once I purchase all these items. Thank you again for your help.

Thank you. What about connecting a Wacom tablet to the docking station and using it in connection with Photoshop with monitor plugged in directly to laptop HDMI port? Also, what about a wired keyboard? I am "holding off" on purchasing an external monitor and mechanical keyboard simply because of looking at a docking station for connectivity. I have enough ports on the laptop to connect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, Wacom tablet and speakers. I am also looking at Dell D6000 docking station. Dell says it's compatible, but they will not say anything about Photoshop, gaming (not a gamer by the way), etc. So, it looks like if I get a docking station, I could maybe connect everything "except" the external monitor and they would all work - or are "all of them" going to be impacted by the GPU?

I just received a message from the manufacturer of the VisionTek VT4000 that this docking station cannot run Photoshop with a display attached to the docking station. Therefore, I am searching for a universal docking station compatible with a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (7559) series laptop with 16GB RAM, 1T SSD Hard Drive and Nvidia Graphics Card (no Thunderbolt) USB 3.0 connectivity, etc. that will run Photoshop without glitches or hiccups. Your recommendations will be appreciated. Thank you.

This is a comment I found on Amazon.com relating to the above-referenced laptop docking station. "Beware if you if you use hardware acceleration in programs like Photo Shop etc.. it will not be available unless you plan to use one of your laptops HDMI port to engage the graphics processor so that the program can detect it." Why does this problem exist, and what other kinds of problems / issues can be encountered using a docking station to connect peripherals and work with Adobe CC / Photoshop, etc.? Thank you.

I have an older laptop. A Dell Inspiron 7559 (Inspiron 15, 7000 Series). I am contemplating purchasing a BenQ monitor, Corsair mechanical keyboard and a docking station to connect other peripherals. I am having a hard time finding a compatible docking station that is not going to cause lags working with Photoshop. My laptop is five years old, has no Thunderbolt ports and no 4K screen resolution. It has USB 3.0 ports and HDMI 1.4 I looked at a Dell D3100, but there are many complaints about lag time and other problems. I am trying to learn if a VisionTek Universalt docking station might work. Does anyone have any thoughts about this matter? Thank you.

I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 Series, and I am unable to drag and drop an image from Adobe Bridge back into Lightroom. As far as I know, the latest updates are installed. Thank you.

I have set up some Smart Collections in Lightroom - 1. New Image Review; 2. Second Pass Image Review; 3. Ready to Process; 4. In Work, as well as some in Bridge. When I originally set up these Smart Collections, when I would "rate" the photo with the relevant "star rating" it would "move" the photo to the smart collection with the rating and reduce the number of photos appearing in the 1. New Image Review smart collection. As an example, I would have ten photos in the 1. New Image Review smart collection. I would then designate the star rating of some of the photos to be a 2, 3, or 4. As this was originally set up, the actual number of photos in the 1. New Image Review folder would fall if a photo was designated with a higher star rating. If I rated a photo with a "4", that smart collection would then show 1 photo in the 4. In Work smart collection and the number of photos in the 1. New Image Review Folder would fall to 9. If I would designate a photo with a rating of of 3. Ready to Process, it would show 1 photo in that smart collection and the number of photos in the 1. New Image Review collection would then fall to 8. This process no longer works. I can assign a 2, 3, or 4 star smart collection rating to a photo, and the photo will appear in the designated smart collection, but the number of photos in the 1. New Image Review smart collection does not change. I am thinking the only way I can change that status is to "remove" the photo from the 1. New Image Review smart collection. Any thoughts?

Thank you for all your patience. I have copied over all my RAW Files to my second External Hard Drive, so they are now all in one place. I have some projects I am working on at the moment, so I will take some photos and see how it goes. I have previously worked with a combination of Lightroom, Camera Raw, Bridge and Photoshop. So, I will be relearning a previous experience. At the time life was such that I wasn't too motivated due to untimely life circumstances, so, I am trying to "reboot". Thanks again.

Thank you. So, if I create a Lightroom Catalog on my laptop hard drive, that is what it is. I can create a folder on my external hard drive named RAW File Library. Then I can copy into that folder all of my existing RAW files, no matter where they are at the moment. Now, I know that if I plug my external hard drive into Lightroom, Lightroom will recognize it (provided the connection is tight). How can I get Lightroom to recognize / identify the RAW File Library if it is not named in Lightroom - or does that not matter? I have a second external hard drive that I would like to designate for photography only, so that is where I would create the RAW File Library. I do not have tons of photographs at the moment, probably a few thousand over all. When I took my photography course at a local community college a few years ago it seems to me that there were some other folders for photos I was "working on" where they could be saved until I accessed them later and then I recall something about settings, whether the final image was going to be a TIFF or a JPEG and the resolution, etc. associated with that. However, for the moment, I want Lightroom to be able to recognize the RAW File Library on the external hard drive when I attach it to the laptop. Using ADD will do that? And - using ADD - that will leave the original RAW images untouched even while I am working on them?

I am starting from scratch in Lightroom. I deleted literally everything from Lightroom and my laptop hard drive, so I can begin from scratch on organizing my photos and workflow process. I understand I might need to create some other folders, i.e., RAW File Library, RAW - In Work, PS - In Work, Complete - Holding and Finished Portfolio Library. 1. I would like to create a Lightroom Catalog on my laptop hard drive. 2. I would like to create a Lightroom Catalog on an external hard drive. 3. I would like to move or copy all my RAW picture files that presently exist on my laptop hard drive and external hard drive to the Lightroom Catalog on the external hard drive. Questions: I know the folders need to be created through Lightroom itself. However, once they are created, can I create another Lightroom Catalog on the external hard drive (through Lightroom) named RAW Lightroom Photos. Once that extra folder is created, can I simply cut and paste or copy my existing RAW files into the RAW Lightroom folder on the external hard drive without going through Lightroom. And if I did that, once I try to access the RAW files from Lightroom, would they be in the Lightroom created folder? If cut and paste or copy through Windows Explorer is not the way to go to get all my older RAW files into a newly created Lightroom folder on an external hard drive, what is the procedure one must follow to accomplish this? The long and the short of this is that I want to have ALL of my RAW files in one location on one drive. I guess everything else should be on an external drive, also. I just want the main Lightroom Catalog or whatever so I can use the laptop hard drive to process all of my work and then dump it off the laptop hard drive when I am done. Hope this is logical. All of my RAW files now sit in two locations: My laptop hard drive and an external hard drive, with only the most recent RAW images being on the laptop. Otherwise, I cut and paste them to an external hard drive so I do not waste space and/or speed on the laptop OS (Windows 10).

I was having so many problems with opening my older Lightroom Folders, etc. (said they needed Upgrades), that I threw up my hands in horror and I deleted everything (from Lightroom and my laptop hard drive), so now I can literally start from scratch. I only have one catalog on an external hard drive that I worked with when I was taking a photography class at a local community college three years ago. The original RAW images are stored on my external hard drive, so I have the pictures. Now, it is a question of how best to organize images for photo editing. I am working with an online tutorial from an avid outdoors photographer, and he seems to have a rather streamlined approach to photo organization. I do not know what Julianne Kost would think about it, but this guys likes to keep things simple, and that's enough to keep me happy. I need to clear off the one file I have on my external hard drive so that it is clean, too and then create a special folder on the external hard drive to move things to. Thanks for listening and responding.

I just posted a question about backing up my Lightroom folder to an external hard drive (which I did) and then just wanting to "delete" the entire Lightroom folder from my laptop and start from scratch in Lightroom with a new organizational system. This very simple operation of "copy entire Lightroom folder to External Hard Drive and then simply delete it from the laptop has to be a possibility here instead of all this long-winded stuff . . . Thanks.

I am trying to learn a different, more effective and simpler way of organizing my work in the Adobe Photo Post Processing Suite of Apps. At the moment, I am trying to get back in touch with Lightroom. I have copied over my original Lightroom folder in Windows File Explorer (Windows 10) to an external hard drive. I would like to remove all the catalogs that are sitting on my laptop hard drive. If I remove the data from the laptop, knowing it has been backed up on an external hard drive, will I be able to access the Lightroom folder on my external hard drive once I have removed it from my laptop? I hope this makes sense. I want to completely clear out everything pertaining to Lightroom that is sitting on the laptop and Lightroom and start from scratch, but want to be able to access the old materials should I choose to do so. Thanks.

Is this Photoshop text still relevant, and can it still be used to teach oneself how to use Photoshop? I notice there is a 2017 and a 2018 edition of this book. Has the material in the 2013 book been superseded by these more recent editions of the book? Thank you.

This just happened to me. The icons either turned "white" and when I clicked on "Properties" it said there was some kind of problem. So, I ended up deleting the shortcut icons on the desktop for Photoshop, Lightroom and Bridge. Then I did a search using the Cortana "Type here to search" box on the task bar and typed in the name of the app icon. When the name came up, I right clicked and then clicked on "open file location." Then I clicked on the file name and clicked again on "send to". Clicked again on "Desktop". Icons are all back and everything works. I had one other unrelated icon that was suffering a similar "white" problem, so I deleted it and went through the same process, and now everything is okay again.

I shut down the computer, and Windows 10 had an update. I waited for the Windows 10 update to load and then turned the computer back on. I opened Creative Cloud and the Bridge update was once again available. This time the update ran properly, bringing up the customary dialogue box concerning making changes to the computer. The update then installed properly. Issue resolved. I still have no idea what the underlying problem was . . .

I have tried, unsuccessfully, four times, to update Bridge, and it consistently brings up the U441P36 error, another installer instance is running. Wait for it to finish and try again. Thank you for any resolution suggestions.

Apparently "unavailable" can indicate that the application simply has not been used . . . I had to install Adobe Air in order to download a Jacquie Lawson Advent Calendar. I installed Adobe Air and although it said it was unavailble, the Jacquie Lawson Advent Calender successfully download and worked perfectly. I have no idea if this is helpful, but "unavailable" may be a confusing term.
